Topic: Those crazy magpies....

Well its that time of the year where the maggies get a little cranky and start swooping.

Where have you encountered them and what do you do to stop them?

Marretts rd (runs parallel with the highway east of Moe) - Particularly mean, zip ties on the helmet didn't stop this one taking chunks... Even a squirt from my bottle didn't slow it...
Loy yang Morwell rd (entry to the briquette factory)- angry

Will post others as I find 'em.

Now on medication. Thanks GT!

Re: Those crazy magpies....

From Latrobe City Cycling Club's Website

1- Trafalgar/Willow Grove Rd (7 Mile Rd) Between Wheelbarrow Rd and North Canal Rd near large pine tree next to house.

2- North Canal Rd near Telegraph Rd intersection.

3- Near Thoms Bridge

4 - Westbury, O'Brien's Rd as the road bends just after Millers Rd ?

5 - Waterloo Rd & Telegraph Rd intersection (very nasty, continues to attack)

6 - Mtn Glen Road, near Powers Ranch

7 - Lloyd St, Moe near old Lions Club Pub towards McDonalds.

8 - Just south of Latrobe River  7 Mile Rd (Trafalgar/Willow Grove Rd)

9 - About 1km west of western Westbury Sign O’Brien's Rd

10 - Near intersection of the western entrance to the Westbury township? turnoff from O’Brien's/Old Sale Rd.

11 - Thompson Rd, Newborough near the chook farm.

Plus at the top of Tanjil South just before going downhill towards Willow Grove.

Stay tuned, I think there are a few about to start; they sit there looking agitated, sharpening their beaks.

Re: Those crazy magpies....

According to a Psychological study involving magpies, magpies only 'attack' those faces they recognise that have 'attacked' their nests or themselves in the past.  wink
I 'ignore' them and ride on; good thing they do not have smell senses like dogs, or they'll be smelling fear emanating from me!

Re: Those crazy magpies....

Have never attacked a magpie before and have no intention to, I have on the other hand refused to swerve for them while driving... But they would have been unable to tell their mates who was driving....

Now on medication. Thanks GT!

Re: Those crazy magpies....

Got swooped on Moe - Walhalla Rd about 500m Nth of the gas pumping station, just past the 50kph corner.

Had a peaceful run all of the way to Tyers Crossing after that and missed out on the way back; must have been too fast for him :-).

Bloody magpies, they're just as annoying as magpie supporters - well, almost!

Go the mighty cats!

Re: Those crazy magpies....

vicious one on the Tyers road - He attacks from the front!!
Also one up the top of the Tyers hill just when you're nice and stuffed.  He's positioned himself at one of the steepest parts too.

Re: Those crazy magpies....

Quite a few lilly-livered attempts between Yarragon & Moe on Waterloo Rd (17/10/09), but the recalcitrant one with questionable parentage at Tanjil South is still at it!

Moe - Erica road magpie has resroted to tokenism, which is fine by me.

BtW Had areally good time riding around the bay today!
