Blores Hill 6 Hour Enduro Race Report
208 riders registered for the first event at Blores Hill with a large number of these riders never seeing the Gippsland trails before. These riders were greeted to blue skies, no wind and perfect temperature for an endurance race on the fast, flowing trails that Blores Hill has to offer.
The race village was based at the Blores Hill Caravan Park, which offered a perfect venue with a large area for riders to set up their service tents, a full kitchen that was run by the Maffra Secondary Collage and also all amenities for people attending the race.
Completitors had to complete as many laps of the planned course within 6 hours with the rider completing the most laps within this time limit for each race class being made the winner of that class.
There were a number of challenges on the course that the competitors had to tackle over the 6 hours of the race, with the most challenging being the Trig Point where riders had to ascend a rocky climb and then descend over technical, rocky terrain before returning to the sooth trails that made up most of the course. There were plenty of spectators on hand to provide encouragement at this section of the course due to a shuttle service provided by the club that ran all day to this point.
Since the completion of the event, it has been met with rave reviews, including being called the best event of the series so far this year, with all competitors already wanting to book in for next year’s event which should be much larger than this year’s event.
The club also used the event to raise money to help send club member Leonie Picton, who is the current Australian Female Downhill Mountain Bike Champion to the Mountain Bike World Cup in Switzerland in September this year to attempt to become the world champion.
The event also saw a number of local riders compete with the best riders in the state, with the best result going to current club champion, Brad Fisher, who dominated the Solo Male 40+ class by beating his rivals by a lap and Ben Blackman came in 3rd in this class behind Brad. Also, in the Triples Male class Richard Northover, Noel Fenn and Stuart Macqueen showed a fine effort coming in second in that class which was the most highly contested class of the weekend.
