Erica 2 Hour Enduro Report: 21-Feb-2010

The trails were a mixture of free flowing single track and fire roads. However, the track was planned to maximise the single track and the fire roads were used mostly for climbing only. The course was a 5km loop that was perfect for riders of all skill level to achieve with only a few technical climbs and descents to catch out the unwary.

The riders covered every category from elite riders through to first time racers and social riders who were just out for a Sunday ride. After the event start, riders soon spaced out and with the first climb being fire road, the fast riders all got a good chance to fight for the lead and jockey for position.

The event was largely incident free, until the last lap when a number of the lead lap riders struck punctures and the outright event result eventually being decided by a puncture with only 200m to go.

The event was won by Stuart Smith who completed 8 laps in a time of 2:09:54. He was closely followed by Ben Verhgen in 2:10:45 and Jarrod Peachey in 2:13:07 who all completed the same number of laps. The female solo category was taken out by Adriana Rosamilia in 2:00:35 with 4 laps completed. Melissa Cosson came in second place with 3 laps in a time of 1:37:58 followed by Trish Leddin in 1:52:17. James Lalor won the Junior Solo in 2:16:17 while also coming 5th outright. He was followed by Jack Walk in second and Thomas McFarlane in third. The teams event was also tightly fought out, but ultimately was won by Ken Fox/Brendan Murrell in 2:04:28 with Stuart MacQueen/Daniel Sen in second and Glenn Wearne/Jannette Brady and coming in third.

All in all it was a successful day with the now traditional BBQ at the finish line. All Gippsland MTB events are open to everyone who wished to attend and the full calendar for 2010 can be found on the website www.gippslandmtb.com.au
