Erica 3 Hour Enduro Report 1: 23-Oct-2011
So, the plot was set, and three months later, 50 or so punters lined up 500m downhill from the timing tent and away we went. That was the last we saw of Brenton Jones, except every 45 minutes or so as he politely asked “track please”. (Ill give you track ya bastard and don’t you dare smile at how shagged I look). Hot on his heels were Trevor Nicklen and Jarryd Jones.
Two hours later, the majority were fading except the mob listed above and a few others. Facial expressions were saying WTF am I doing on a beautiful Sunday morning, but lets all press on.
In amongst all this Johnno goes missing on an extra long lap. Now that lap coincided with one of the riders girlfriends ‘running’ a lap of the track to pass the time. Let’s just say she was tall, elegant and had shorts and a singlet top. Johnno eventually arrives back blubbering that she “overtook“ him six times. Johnno was on a bike, she was on foot?? – was he feigning a ‘mechanical’ for additional appreciation time? (what can go wrong on a single speed?)
Dave Moss arrives back at transition looking dazed and a bit like a chimney sweep – and I quote ”I read somewhere that if you’re going to hit a tree hard, you lose the bike and hug it”. Dave, here’s a tip , I’d be doing everything to miss the bloody thing. So here he was, a confused stick of charcoal ready to go out and do it over and over again. As he disappears off into the forest, he’s muttering, reassuring himself ‘that didnt really hurt’.
A few other war stories and patches of dried blood were testament to fun being had, and although the pair of masochists and the kelpie, (the organisers) tried to kill us all, at three hours we were glad it was over.
Final results were:
First Outright: Brenton Jones – 6 laps
Second Outright: Jarryd Jones – 5laps
Third Outright: Trevor Nicklen – 5 laps
First Female: Rachel Baggalley – 4 laps
First U19 : Jarryd Jones – 5 laps

Full results can be found here.
Thanks to all those who helped from Rego through to the BBQ, and reluctantly those two nutters who thought up this “Sunday of pain”.
Also, it was great to see Brenton Jones back, particularly after suffering a horrendous crash in Queensland earlier this year, where, apparently, things at one stage did not look good. Hasn’t affected his riding it appears, and Brenton , stay off the road, its unsafe , the landings are generally softer in the bush. Also, saying “you enjoyed the track” at the presentation is merely encouragement to these two idiots to make it even harder next year.
