Arriving at the track on Friday, after a 5 hour drive from home we were greeted by temperatures of 42 degrees in the shade. After walking the track and having 2 practice runs, two of our junior members (Josh Webster & Spencer Morris) decided to call it a day.
Saturday practice was held in far more comfortable temperatures. From a spectators point of view it was a great track, in that the course had virtually no trees and you could watch a run almost from start to finish (not ideal however for an anxious mother).
Early Sunday morning, it was back to the track for practice. All seemed to be going well until Gippsland MTB member, Lewis Kerr (expert men) came unstuck and crashed badly in a rocky section of the track and required ambulance transport to the Goulburn Valley Hospital. He is now at home recovering from a large cut to his hip and a dislocated elbow. The boys have kept a souvenir for him – a rock covered in blood – as a memento of his time at the Shepparton track! We wish you a speedy recovery Lewis.
Gippsland MTB member’s results from Sunday racing were as follows:
Under 19s Ben Barrett 6th place
Michael Bourne 26th place
Expert Men Josh Webster 1st place
Lewis Kerr DNS
Under 17s Spencer Morris 8th place
Congratulations to Josh on his win! Check out the gallery for photos.
