GRANT FUNDING SUCCESS!

Haunted Hills Bike Park

Gippsland MTB Inc (GMTB) has been successful in their application for nearly $1m under the Australian Government’s Regional Jobs and Investment Packages for development of the Haunted Hills Bike Park.

The new bike park will be constructed on a greenfield site located at Haunted Hills near Newborough. It will be a significant gateway trail network and skills development facility.

It will provide a gateway to mountain biking with trails progressing from beginner (4kms) to intermediate (4kms) and expert (2kms) plus skills area and pump track. The park will progressively introduce riders to rollers, berms, jumps and rock gardens. It will also have quality infrastructure including shelter, bike wash, picnic tables, toilets and car park.

The park will become a gateway to mountain biking in Gippsland where we now have eight authorised MTB parks and more in the planning.

Working closely with Latrobe City Council, the Haunted Hills Bike Park project will commence development planning within the next few months with the aim of completion in approximately two years.

Gippsland Tracks & Trails – Feasibility Study

GMTB is also a project partner in the South Gippsland Shire Council’s Gippsland Track & Trails – Feasibility Study which was also offered funding under the Australian Government’s Regional Jobs and Investment Packages.

This is a visitor economy priority project of the Gippsland Local Government Network, an alliance of six local governments who collectively advocate for investment in the Gippsland region. Together with Destination Gippsland, GMTB has joined and will help fund the project.

From a mountain biking perspective we hope to achieve clear recommendations regarding the future development of MTB trails in Gippsland. This should then assist with funding applications and land manager support for future trail development.

This project will be a significant investment into the future of mountain biking in Gippsland.
