Trail Incidents At Blores Hill – Share The Trails
Over the past couple of years there have been several incidents of user conflict on the trails at Blores Hill. Gippsland MTB is consulting with Parks Victoria and the Australian Trail Horse Riders Association with a view to minimising future conflict. This may involve including designated trails for equestrian and mountain bike riding.
Would you please encourage all riders to adopt the IMBA Rules of the Trail which are found on the website menu below the Club Calendar and forwarded to you each year with your membership renewal.
The following additional information is specifically important to know and encourage in others:
- Equestrians have the right of way over other users on all trails. This is an international standard. Walkers have next priority and then cyclists.
- Cyclists should yield to horse riders by stopping and asking permission of the horse rider to pass.
- Cyclists must allow horse riders time to position their horses safely.
- Cyclists should not ring bells as they may startle a horse – voice contact is preferable. A frightened horse is a danger to you, the horse rider and other trail users.
- It is advisable not to pass within a meter of a horse as they may kick if startled and have considerable reach.
