Gippsland MTB Background Information
In response to the rapidly growing popularity of mountain biking an association to represent Gippsland’s mountain bikers was formed in May 2008.
Just over two years later the association has really taken off and is already well over 250 members. Numbers are growing rapidly as more and more riders become aware of our existence with our club now the second largest in Victoria.
The association was established to provide trail access, advocacy, trail building and maintenance, recreational and competition events and races. The association and its members are affiliated and insured through the national sporting bodies of Mountain Biking Australia (MTBA) and also through the International Mountain Bike Association of Australia (IMBA AU).
Gippsland MTB runs scheduled monthly races, social rides and track maintenance days. We will also run events in the Victorian State Series for Downhill and also Victorian Enduro Series in 2011.
A comprehensive submission has been made seeking some $3m for the development of mountain bike trails throughout Gippsland. Our vision is to establish Gippsland as a ‘mecca for mountain biking’ providing world class trails for the enjoyment of our community and attracting visitors from Melbourne, interstate and overseas.
The association has a dynamic and interactive website that is continuously updated with latest news and events and issues a monthly newsletter.
