Trail Maintenance Day – Glengarry: 8-May-2010
Our next race will be a Point to Point race at Glengarry May 23rd. This race was a huge success last year and the organisers have an ever bigger and better course planned for this years event. However, the planned course has a few sections that will require a bit of work in the lead up to this event. So we have swapped the planned social ride in May, Technical Shuttle Ride Day, with the Trail Maintenance session scheduled in June on the calendar.
GSBC/CWM Boolarra 3 Hour Enduro Report – 25-Apr-2010
55 riders braved the weather to tackle the first mountain bike event run at Boolarra, the Great Southern Bike Company/Colin Watson Motors 3 Hour Enduro. After the heavy rain of Saturday, riders were greeted to a light shower at registration. However, as it got closer to race start the sun made an appearance in a last minute attempt to dry out the course.
The event attracted competitors of all skill levels, from first time mountain bike riders using the clubs loan bikes to serious interstate competitors. However everyone was there for the same purpose, to go out and have some fun in the bush.
GSBC/CWM Boolarra 3 Hour Enduro – 25-Apr-2010
Round three of the GMTB Club Championship will see us take in another area of Gippsland’s awesome trail network, this time being in the Boolarra region. This area was devastated by last years fires but has bounced back well, Lenny and helpers have put together a challenging 8-9 km loop of existing single track mixed in with a bit of reclaimed track since the fires. Race format will be a 3 hour enduro for solo and pairs entries only. All skill levels are welcome but be advised there are just as many ups as downs, registration will open at 8:30 with a race start at 10:00. The event will be signposted from the Boolarra pub and is only a few km’s from the town.
This event is sponsored by the clubs newest sponsor, the Great Southern Bicycle Company in Leongatha and Colin Watson Motors in Traralgon.

Mt Taylor Race Review
KONA Victorian Downhill Mountain Bike Series
Round 4 – Mt Taylor, Bairnsdale
Every rider who has been racing in the KONA VDHS this season will agree with me that this is the best season we have had for years. Round 4 at Mt Taylor was definitely one of the most anticipated rounds of the season. With a new track at Mt Taylor and a new club being Gippsland MTB hosting the event it was sure to be another fantastic weekend of riding and racing. 216 riders made the journey into the country town of Bairnsdale with anticipation for a great result in their respective categories. I was lucky enough to ride this track a week before the race and it was a course that had everything from technical rock gardens, tight corners, long pedalling straights and jumps. The course had a 300m vertical decent over a twisty 2.32km distance, coupled with the dry soil this was leading up to be one hell of a downhill racing weekend.
Volunteers Required for Downhill Event
This is the call out to you – our riding community to get behind GMTB and help support Round 4 of the KONA Victorian Downhill Mountain Series at Mount Taylor, Bairnsdale next weekend. We are after riders, friends, family, spectators and volunteers to get up to Mount Taylor on Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th of March. Show your support by having a go in the downhill racing event which has a category to suit every skill level or get on the sideline and cheer the riders down the hill giving them encouragement with whatever you can find that will make a loud noise (bells, whistles, megaphones and truck horns are all advisable!).
There is a large prize pool up for grabs in every class ($2900 cash and $3500 worth of prizes) and you will get to see the best downhill riders in the state, and some interstate and international riders take on the mythical Mount Taylor! We are after a committed group of Volunteers to help GMTB run the event, and are desperately seeking 20 volunteers that can help out on Saturday between 8am and 5pm and on Sunday between 7am and 6pm. We have a variety of jobs for the volunteers including, driving shuttle vehicles, course marshalling with radio checkpoints along the downhill course, number plate spotting for timing, a lolly pop crossing person for shuttle vehicles, and a bike rider herder. All volunteers will be provided with a free lunch, muffins, drinks and snacks, a Hi-Vis fluro orange GMTB Event Crew vest and a whistle during the event. If you are interested in helping out on the weekend please shout out, register ar events@gippslandmtb.com.au , drop a line in the forums or contact GMTB President and Mt Taylor Race Director – Nick King.
Check out www.vicdhseries.com for more information about the event and GMTB member Michael ‘Mega’ Watt on his journey down the mountain here http://vimeo.com/10223384 . After this major event GMTB will be able to purchase 2 brand new mountain bike trailers for use at our events! Help us to progress your club! Read on to see the volunteer positions that need filling.

Wednesday Evening Learnings From The Mid Week Social Rides
The following pearls of wisdom have been picked up over a wonderful eight weeks at Blores Hill riding into the dust, sorry dusk.
Fast Group means: Let’s have some red bull, ooze a ton of testosterone, eyes as big as dinner plates and hammer the shit out of this. “What, where, let’s jump off that”.
Medium Group means: A little less than the above, let’s go, stuff em, faster, and let’s not injure ourselves
Slow group means: We’re still going to go hard enough to cough up a lung.
